Yankton Engineering LLC was founded by Thomas D. Prevish, Ph.D., P.E., C.E.M., a mechanical engineer whose career has included significant projects in the energy efficiency, heat transfer, combustion, and power engineering fields. Tom is currently the president and chairman of the board of NorthWest Engineering Service, Inc., a company that provides technical services for the built environment throughout the Pacific and Inland Northwest.
Prior to NWESI, he led the engineering team at Serveron, using Danaher Business System tools such as Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) to support lean manufacturing of dissolved gas analyzers for utility-level transformers.
Tom spent many years helping to establish the fledgling fuel cell industry, and was part of the executive leadership team at ClearEdge Power, Inc., as it developed its combined heat and power (CHP) distributed generation products to achieve industry-leading availability and capacity factors. His roles included engineering oversight; manufacturing and field service support; competitor market analyses; product roadmap strategy; new business development; and safety standards evaluation and certification as part of the International Electrotechnical Commission. Before working at ClearEdge Power, Tom held engineering and project management roles at Siemens (Westinghouse) Power Generation and Plug Power, Inc.
Early in his career, he was focused on using laser diagnostics to improve gas turbine and rocket engine combustion, and modeling heat transfer and chemical ablation for Thiokol Corporation, as part of the Space Shuttle program
Tom created a class entitled “Introduction to Fuel Cell Systems“, has taught other classes at Portland Community College, and is currently active on the Industrial Advisory boards for the Electrical Engineering Technology department there, as well as the Renewable Energy Engineering department at the Oregon Institute of Technology. He enjoys promoting STEM education to youth, and has been active in science fairs and K-12 outreach programs with Portland Metro STEM Partnership, Willamette Promise, PPS Partner Connect, In4All, and the ACE Mentorship program.
